FLICKERING FLIGHT

Have you noticed

How my soul flickers

Like the quiet whirlwind

beneath the wing of a monarch

As he rides the cool June night

into the warm summer meadow

where his love was sowed

His touch parachuting gently

onto the milkweed

ripe and in full swing

Entranced by this majesty

hailing its floral crown jewels

Time and time again

he is nourished by this nectar

Nor killing frost

Nor ice ballet

Will strip him of this reign

And as the hazel sun extends its light

And this palace comes to life

Our souls my dearest

will flutter, flicker and take flight
